Just to complicate matters further. Our present calendar wasn't established until centuries after the time of Christ - and they goofed. We know that Herod the great died in the year we call 4 BC (or BCE to use newer terminology) Since that's the same Herod who tried to kill Jesus, Our Lord was actually born between 4 and 6 "Before Christ" - but as you say, our computers don't know the difference.
