Dear Dan,
It was interesting to hear your story about JFK Jr. When my mother took me to show me around Boston and all the places she lived (this was just about a year before she died), she pointed out a house on Dolphin Road which was just up from the Kennedy estate at that time. She told me an interesting story that her father was their jeweler (or one of them...!) and since they lived so close, she would, as a little girl, have to play the messenger to deliver whatever it was that he'd been working on to their house. She said she remembered meeting Mr. Kennedy, Sr. and that as a teen, her sister (Aunt Peggy) had a crush on Joe, Jr. and would have loved it if he'd ask her out!
My only other "touch" with the famous family was that in the early 60's and Jack was making his way through the midwest on a campaign (I was about 5), he'd stopped in Dayton for some kind of street parade. Bob LaMendola was so excited about the whole thing and piled us kids into his car and drove us down to see if we could get a glimpse of him. Well, the story about politicians and "babies" stood, as JFK leaned over and shook Bob's hand- he was holding me up at the time to get a good look!

Your mountain hike sounds great! I'll have to come up with something super for my 45th too!
Best of luck to you! Love, Jill
